Vitamin Water releases a funny TV ad with Steve Nash and it’s hilarious. But what I really find interesting about Vitamin Water’s marketing campaign is not the creative infomercial style TV ad, but its use of Facebook’s social media marketing capabilities.
When you look at the details of Vitamin Water’s marketing campaign, one of the things that stand out is the url (http://www.facebook.com/vitaminwater). One might think, why not just point people to the Vitamin Water main website or a specific landing page on the vitamin water domain? But Vitamin Water instead chooses to promote its facebook page.
After further review, any marketer can see this is genius. Why? Well, forcing interaction on facebook allows for the instant/automatic tell-a-friend effect. Because with each interaction within facebook, you instantly post to your profile, telling all your friends about your interaction with vitamin’s water application. Now that’s what I call a productive use of facebook’s capabilities.
