    Good evening Mr Michael Locke,
First of all, I want to say that I love all of your videos. It is a truly inspiration. Secondly, I have a question to ask. I’m currently studying Javascript at this moment, and I’m still very confuse with the two term, Web Designing and Web Developer. In the future, I want to be able to convert my own mock up into HTML, and add more application using other languages. Is that considering a Web Designer or Web Developer ? Hope to see your answer soon, Thank you.

@Trung – Great question. What you’re going after is what I would call a web designer with proficiency in front-end development. It’s the category where I fit in exactly. I know design but I also know XHTML/CSS. I think today, any web designer should understand the basic knowledge of front-end development. Meaning, at least the understanding of taking a mock-up from a PSD and converting that mock to HTML/CSS. Manipulating JavaScript, PHP is a plus which is also good when taking your websites a bit further. I would say you’re going after both (which is a smart thing).

    Hi Michael.

I’ve noticed on some of your videos that you start the a web design on Fireworks. Do you create ALL your sites from Fireworks or just create them from scratch: coding everything from the ground up.

My question is because I believe that web designers don’t have to know much coding (html, css, js, and php) nowadays since there are so many tools that can be used to create a site in no time with not much knowledge. I personally would like to know as much as I can by learning css, html, js and jquery, and php but, is it necessary?

Thanks and keep up the good work.

@Wilson – I do start all my designs in Adobe Fireworks. It is a good thing if you’re a web designer and you understand how to code your websites in html. This allows you to build sites from scratch or easily manipulate sites like WordPress, etc. But you’re right, you could probably get by without knowing too much code, but it would be hard. You would have to rely on a lot of 3rd party tools/services. I always say you only need to know the basics of HTML/CSS. With the basics, you can go a long way. ~ Thanks for the feedback.
