Love the smoothness of the Google Ventures site. The subtle background pattern is awesome!

I love how they blurred the edges of the image to help focus on the title line.

Also: I’d like to hear your thoughts on the “pinterest” style column layouts that seem to be trending right now (UX/general design). I’m worried that each column starting at different points may affect readability.

I love the fixed header and the effect it creates.

The image is stunning, like the pinterest style column.

The background title and the 1 pixel fade is one to use for some design practice. Would also make for a good tutorial. hint hint.

@Kevin – That’s a nice idea for a tutorial. Will add to the list. ;)

A well design site. Great typography, great spacing and great use of texture.

I like the mix of serif and sans serif fonts. Header image also adds a nice, kind of vintage look.

As an aside to the Friday-Favorite.

I just took the plunge and bought Fireworks CS6.
I’m not regretting it so far.
Creating a complex graphic image, then having the CSS at my fingertips and the rich mobile device functionality look strong.

As soon as I’m flush enough to have an extra $90 bucks, I’ll be joining you.

I’ve done well over the last few years with DreamWeaver and WordPress but I know your expertise will add a HUGE boost to my skill set!!!
